45,000 SQUARE FOOT COMPLEXE SPORTIF DE REPENTIGNY OPENS IN QUEBEC
ATLANTA, GA, MARCH 14, 2007 – The opening of the 45,000 square foot Complexe Sportif de Repentigny gives area sports enthusiasts unparalleled indoor sports opportunities from gymnastics and badminton to basketball, volleyball and more. The recent opening of the mega sports facility qualifies this city in the Canadian province of Quebec to host regional, provincial and national competitions. The gymnastics and badminton competitions of the 42nd Finale of the Quebec Games, the most important sporting event in the province for athletes under 18 years old, are being held there. They will be followed by provincial youth volleyball championships. Additionally, Complexe Sportif has hosted the Quebec gymnastics trials for the 2007 Canada Games and served as the official gymnastics training site for the Quebec team.
It is the result of a public/private partnership. Complexe Sportif is a privately owned and operated facility designed and created to fulfill the city’s commitment to provide residents of all ages with a high caliber sports and recreational facility that meets international criteria for sports flooring and equipment and capable of hosting local, provincial and national events. The concept was developed by Pierre Fortier, vice president of Daniel Arbour & Associates, which designed the facility, and Daniel Gagné, Complexe Sportif general manager.
“This is the first city in Quebec to build this type of installation and is a model for future projects in other cities,” explains Fortier, who also oversaw the facility’s construction. “We can divide the space into three double gymnasiums and serve hundreds of people of different ages playing various sports or participating in recreational programs all at the same time.”
The huge interior space of Complexe Sportif is completely installed with Taraflex® Sport M Plus and Taraflex® Surface flooring so diverse sports and recreational programs can take place. The extensive blue and green colored floors feature orange, yellow, white and blue game lines for one soccer, 13 badminton, seven volleyball, five basketball and two international-sized handball courts. Complexe Sportif boasts a gymnastics area that meets national criteria and is the official training facility for a local gymnastics club. A portable Taraflex floor adds to the variety of the programming. When in place the 7,500 square foot portable floor becomes part of a larger area that transforms into FIBA-approved basketball courts bordered by bleachers. With game line markings in place, the portable floor can also be used for volleyball or badminton courts.
Complexe Sportif is already receiving recognition beyond Canada’s borders.
“We recognize the tremendous value of Complexe Sportif for the residents of Repentigny,” says Nicolas Bauer, Gerflor national sports marketing manager. “In 2006, our parent company, Gerflor, selected Complexe Sportif as its Taraflex project of the year in North America. It was chosen as our top project from hundreds of installations.”
Installation of the Taraflex floors was just part of the project involvement of Advantage Sport of Boisbriand, Quebec. For more than two years Advantage Sport, www.advantagesport.com, worked closely with the partners and contributed design, layout and color recommendations as well as building the portable court and its storage area.
