A New rEvolution in Indoor Sports Flooring
ATLANTA , GA , APRIL 6, 2006 – The innovative Taraflex® Evolution System combines a wood substructure with DIN certification and a durable, multipurpose surface for the most versatile sports floor available.
The Taraflex® Evolution System brings together a DIN certified sub floor made of wood with a comfortable, easy maintenance, resilient vinyl surface layer to deliver outstanding shock absorption, comfort and superior performance. This flooring system is ideal for facilities with college and professional sports programs and schedules that demand a safe, full range, multipurpose floor for athletic, recreational, educational and social activities.
The system combines the best features of two flooring types: point-elastic and area-elastic. The benefits of the point-elastic surface, comprised of a 100% pure vinyl wear layer with reinforced fiberglass and a patented closed-cell foam backing, are consistent safety, shock absorption at the point of impact, outstanding performance and ball bounce. The point-elastic surface deforms at the point of impact with no area deflection and gives a running, jumping or falling player a comfortable landing. Unlike other area-elastic floors, it will never have to be waxed, sanded, resurfaced or recoated. The advantages of the area-elastic wood sub floor include DIN certification, safety and performance.
The Evolution substructure is just 28 millimeters thick. Depending on the Taraflex® surface selected for the top layer, the system will range from 30 millimeters to 37 millimeters thick, considerably thinner than wood floors with a 45 to 60 millimeter thickness. The low profile of the Taraflex® Evolution System means it can be installed for new construction or renovation projects over existing wood or synthetic floors.
The unique design of the double tongue and groove wood construction with cross linked closed-cell foam in protected tracks ensures the floor cannot be compressed more than 50%. With this design, the floor can withstand several tons of pressure up to 700 psi (pounds per square inch) from bleachers, rolling loads and heavy point loads. When the Taraflex® Evolution System is installed throughout a gym or other space, athletes will experience consistent playing conditions across the entire floor.
“The Taraflex® Evolution System turns an entire gym into high performance, safe, comfortable multiuse space,” says Stephane Leudet, Gerflor national sales manager. “It eliminates usage restrictions. With its limited deformation and deflection, there is less risk of vibration and reduced risk of shin splints, stress fractures and other injuries.”
The 100% pure vinyl wear layer treated with Protecsol® protects the floor’s color and design and minimizes the chance of friction burns and resists scratches. It reduces maintenance to daily cleaning with a damp mop. Another advantage is Sanosol®, a proprietary treatment added to the surface layer to prevent bacterial and fungicidal development. The Taraflex® surface layer is available in Maple and Oak wood designs, plus 21 neutral and vivid colors.
