TECHNOLOGY CREATES DISTINCTIVE TIGER LOGO FOR TENAFLY, NJ SCHOOLS
ATLANTA, GA, MAY 27, 2008 – A snarling tiger with fangs stares at students, staff and visitors as they enter the Tenafly, NJ high school and middle school gyms. The distinctive inlaid logos serve as the focal points of the gym floors in the newly-constructed additions.
Taraflex® Sport M Plus flooring was selected for the gym floors because of its performance, maintenance and safety characteristics plus the ability to create the multi-colored complex logos out of the same flooring material. Tenafly’s tiger mascot differs dramatically from standard painted-on school logos. They are permanent images while painted-on logos in gyms often have to be touched up because the color gets worn off by steady usage.
The brightly-colored tiger’s face framed by a red circle was generated by computer graphics. The facial features required 46 pieces of six different colors of sports flooring that were inserted into a cut-out center circle of the floor. Each puzzle-like piece was precisely sized by a computerized water jet cutter with the margin of error limited to 1/20,000 of an inch.
The distinctive logo was created from tangerine, gold, sandstone, silver grey, red and black colored pieces which stand out dramatically from the rest of the high school’s 3,700 square foot and middle school’s 5,700 square foot Taraflex Maple Design floors.
The inlaid tiger logos with their intricate design are outstanding for their color, drama and complexity. While 30% of all sports floor installations in schools, colleges and fitness and sports facilities have logos in the center circle or elsewhere on the floor, typically they are one, two or three color letters or simple designs.
A design like the tiger logo in Tenafly is a true attention getter according to Pierre Guariglia of Advantage Sport USA of Winooski, VT, www.advantagesportusa.com, which installed the Tenafly floors and logos. “When I show other school district or college administrators the photos of the Tenafly logo they are amazed by it,” he says. “Everyone who enters these Tenafly school gyms will remember their visit because of the tiger image.”
With Taraflex flooring, logos can be added to the contract at any stage of the installation, says Guariglia. The floor can be installed and the administrators can still decide they want to add a logo or lettering to make it look more professional. Even simple lettering along the end lines or in the center circle goes a long way to making a big impression.
Taraflex® Sport M Plus has a 35% shock absorption rate and correct co-efficient of friction for turning and accelerating ease and accurate ball bounce. Its permanent product treatments reduce friction burn risk, help to prevent micro-organisms and bacteria from developing, and decrease the risk of skin-related infections.
