Blackstone Valley Regional Technical Vocational High School
Within its heralded $36 million expansion and renovation project, Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School installed Gerflor Taraflex® Sports Flooring in its new 1,400 seat Competition Center during the winter of 2005. The goal of the Valley Tech Building Committee was to install a flooring that would be durable and lasting while withstanding various uses.
The Competition Center was designed not only as facility for various traditional athletic events such as volleyball and basketball, but its flexibility permits numerous other activities. With its sound-reducing dividers that extend from ceiling to floor, creative utilizations of the center are maximized. More than a dozen different floor configurations are available, even for simultaneous functions. The center’s multi-faceted applications will surely include robotic challenges, LEGO team competitions, career and trade shows, culinary prep contests, public speaking events, and science/engineering fairs.
The attractive wood-grain design has led numerous visitors to comment that upon first observation the floor appeared to be natural wood. After walking on the surface, people quickly comment on the cushioned feel underfoot. Athletes have commented on the increased traction and bounce of the Taraflex® compared to other compositions.
Due to the variety of center applications, Valley Tech purchased Porter collapsible, rollaway basketball rims used by teams in the National Basketball Association. The hoops, which are counter-weighted, anchor to the floor. As a demonstration of the Taraflex® flexibility, even with the tremendous pressure of the hoop assembly, the floor surface will smoothly even out within a shorter recovery period. The stadium style bleacher seating and regular bleachers will leave temporary indentations if left out for several days, but the depressions also eventually disappear after the units are closed.
To date, the Competition Center has endured heavy activity and maintenance crews have found that clean-up of the flooring is relatively easy and has maintained its original installation appearance. School officials are extremely pleased with the performance of the flooring and would highly recommend its installation in any facility that will house volumes of traffic and activity.
Valley Tech is a Massachusetts “Green School” because of the many renewable energy, cost efficient, and environmental friendly initiatives that were part of the building project. A longer-lasting flooring that does not require regular painting and polyurethane applications is most certainly a welcome contributor to those efforts.

“The ball bounce on the Taraflex® floor is the same as a wood floor. I run with the students in our gym once a week for 10 minutes and can feel the floor decompress and come back. The best benefits of this floor are the ball bounce and running on it.”
Mike Tall, Physical Education Teacher, Bryant Middle School, Dos Palos, CA
Empire Union School District
“I was on the Taraflex® Evolution floor for 13 hours a day for three days running demonstrations and coaching shooters and rebounders. In my opinion, the floor was fabulous. The traction I got on it was unbelievable. To me, the ball reacts off the Taraflex® court the same way as it does off a wood floor. Running up and down the court, shooting, cutting, it has the same performance as a wood floor. It has a more consistent grip than a wood floor.”
“Even when it got dirty, the floor wasn’t slick and the traction was still good. At 7 pm I would put my players on it even though the court was not restricted to players or people with clean shoes. Everyone was checking it out.”
Troy Geiser, Two Time Colorado High School 2A Coach of the Year, Coach of the 2001 Colorado State Champions, 2004 State Runners-Up, and 2006 Colorado Final Four qualifiers, Sangre de Cristo Undivided High School, Mosca, CO
“When the bleachers were put in one had to be left pulled open from the wall. There was a big indentation in the floor but once they pushed the bleacher back to the wall, it went away.”
“Kids hit the deck a lot in basketball and I think this floor absorbs the shock of those falls just as well as any surface. They also do a lot of running in basketball and volleyball as well as jump roping on this floor and they don’t get shin splints.”
Arland Miller, Junior High Schools Sports Director, Empire Union School District, Modesto, CA

“I think highly of the Taraflex® floor and have only positive things to say about it. It feels great when you walk on it. When you first see the gym you say ‘Wow’ because the maple floor is installed on a full size middle school basketball court with inlaid color game lines and a green border.”
Don Kiger, Assistant Superintendent Business Services, Empire Union School District, Modesto CA
Onondaga Nation Arena
“The support the Taraflex® floor gives our players is important. We wanted an all purpose floor that felt as natural as possible and had lots of shock absorption. The players and coaches love this floor and I think it’s a great product.”
Sherwin Hill, manager, Onondaga Nation Arena, Nedrow, NY
SportsCity
“I was surprised by the floor’s ease of upkeep and saving time and money. There was no re-waxing the floor like we would have had to with a wood floor.”
Doug Neisius, co-founder, SportsCity, Blue Springs, MO
Global Fitness Centers
“We have the product in two locations and really love it. In our Stow center, we probably have 45 classes a week on the Taraflex® floor with 20 to 25 people in each class. That makes our group fitness room one of the most heavily used rooms in the club with concentrated usage. The slight texture prevents slipperiness.”
Dave Bundy, owner and general manager, Global Fitness Centers, Stow and Tyngsboro, MA
SÔNZ Fitness
“The visual attractiveness of the Taraflex® Fitness Tile is significant. The colors are more interesting and vibrant than other floors. The fact that it looks cleaner and is easier to clean is not a trivial thing. You don’t get particles that can be tracked around the facility like with some other types of floors. The color and cleanliness are definitely positives.”

Norwich YMCA
I am the Sports Director of the Norwich YMCA in Norwich New York.We recently moved into our new 65,000 square foot facility. The gymnasium is 21,000 square ft. with three full size High School Basketball Courts and a running track around the perimeter of the courts. The courts and the track have been outfitted with your Taraflex® product. I can't tell you in words how pleased I am with the performance of the material.
Let's start with maintenance. It is so nice to be able to run a power cleaner over the floor and it picks everything up. It is very easy to dust mop, and requires very little maintenance.
The durability of the material is fantastic. We left a power genie lift on the track for 3 days and it left a mark. Within hours the marks were gone with no recollection that the lift ever sat in the spot.
I have received several comments that the athletes like this material because it gives much better than ordinary wood. Having played on Taraflex® myself, I feel much less sore the following day than I do when I play on wood.
Last but not least, John the installer, did a fantastic job. He was very personable and knowledgeable of the product. If more people were like him life would be much easier.
Your product is wonderful.
Thanks again,

"Our Taraflex® Maple flooring provides our Activity Center with a beautiful look of a wood finish, but not with the exorbitant cost of a wood flooring. It is easy to maintain, easy to clean, and provides us the the durability and finish that will last us a long time. We love our flooring!"

Basketball City Boston
Basketball City Boston has had Gerflor/Taraflex® Sport M Maple design sports flooring installed at our facility for the last three-and-a-half years. Last year we expanded our original three-court basketball playing area by three additional courts and chose to install Gerflor/Taraflex® Sport M again.
The only sport floor that is used in our facility is Gerflor/Taraflex® sport flooring. We are very pleased with the Gerflor/Taraflex® sport flooring and do not hesitate to recommend this product.
Advantage Sport USA of Winooski, Vermont was the contractor for both installations of our sport flooring, in the spring of 2000 and again this past winter, 2001. Advantage did an exceptional job on the installation and has been thorough and professional in their follow-up service, responsive to our needs, and quick and effective for the few minor repairs that have been necessary.
We are very satisfied with the performance of this product and the installation, and hope that this reference can help you to make a decision to use Taraflex® in your facility. If you should care to speak with me directly, or care to see the Advantage Sport USA installation here at BasketBall City-Boston, please feel to call me at (617) 742-6700.

South Bristol Elementary School
This letter is in regards to the new flooring your company has installed at our new gymnasium/community center at the South Bristol Elementary School.
I would like to say your installer has done a first class job. He has worked long days to get the job done and yet he did not let it compromise the quality of his work. He has done a terrific job.
I believe you have a very reliable product in this flooring, as we used it in our old gymnasium twelve to fourteen years ago and it has held up great. No complaints known.
If you ever need a recommendation in this area, please use our floor to show your work.
Thank You ,

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
of Elma, Marllie and Wales,Inc.
We had installed a new Taraflex® floor (maple design), in our new gymnasium during the Summer of 2000.
We are most pleased with this product. It is very durable, easy to clean, and performance is very good. At roughly two-thirds the cost of a traditional wood floor, it is a great way to lower cost and still get the look and performance of wood. Taraflex® also offers much better resiliency to water damage than wood ever will. Most people never realize that it is not wood; its appearance is so realistic.
I wood (pun intended) strongly recommended Taraflex® to anyone considering a new floor or as a replacement floor.
Sincerely,
James A. Coatsworth
